Our French program begins in Preschool and continues all the way through Year 7, giving children a steady, age-appropriate path to learning a second language.
Preschool & Extended-Day
Young children are introduced to French in a playful, hands-on setting that encourages exploration and discovery. Lessons use visuals, games, songs, nursery rhymes, and plenty of movement to make learning engaging and memorable.
Directions are given mainly in French, and key words and structures are paired with gestures to help children connect sound, meaning, and action.
Years 1–4
Students continue to build vocabulary and confidence through songs, workbooks, stories, and occasional crafts.
Short lessons are followed by individual or small-group work, keeping the atmosphere lively and interactive while reinforcing reading and writing skills.

Years 5–7
The program follows the BC Core French curriculum and the guidelines of the BC Ministry of Education. Lessons remain interactive, with songs, stories, and group activities, and students are encouraged to take more responsibility for their learning.

They also explore aspects of French-Canadian culture, geography, and history, gaining a broader understanding of the Francophone world in Canada.
The goal is to strengthen communication skills and develop comfort with the language, while gradually introducing more complex structures and vocabulary, preparing students for a smooth transition into high school French.
Goals and Approach
Our aim is to help children develop basic conversational skills and the confidence to communicate. The program emphasizes listening, speaking, reading, and writing in a supportive environment, allowing each child to progress at their own pace.
A Montessori Setting
Our teachers are working to make French an integrated part of the classroom experience, similar to how children engage with other Montessori subjects. French teachers also supervise lunch and outdoor activities and will often speak French during daily interactions with the students.
Specially designed French as a Second Language (FSL) Montessori materials and a dedicated “French shelf” invite children to explore and practice at their own pace, helping language learning feel natural and engaging.
