Frequently Asked Questions

What is AMI?

AMI stands for the Association Montessori Internationale which is the teacher training program founded by Dr. Maria Montessori in 1929. AMI offers internationally recognized training of teachers at all age levels. All of our classroom teachers are certified AMI guides who are committed to providing an educational experience that is true to the Montessori method of teaching.

Does the VMS elementary program include year seven?

Yes, our upper elementary programs extend to year seven. Our graduates move on to a range of secondary schools and are fully prepared as they launch into the next chapter of their learning.

What is the three-year cycle?

Montessori classrooms are multi-aged learning environments that combine three year age groupings: 3-6, 6-9, and 9-12. As students grow into their classes they gradually acquire a greater degree of independence and a deeper interest in leadership within their class communities. Our mixed-aged classes provide an excellent opportunity for children to succeed at their own pace while learning how to mentor each other in a caring and supportive manner.
