Our preschool classes offer half-day programs and are licensed by Community Care Facilities Licensing. We provide (full-day) extended-day programs for our 5 year old children.

Our elementary classes offer fully integrated educational programs for children 6 to 12 years of age (grades 1-7).

Our extended-day and elementary programs are Certified (Group 1) by the Office of the Inspector of Independent Schools, B.C. Ministry of Education. All of our classrooms are guided by fully trained and licensed teachers with AMI (Association Montessori Internationale) credentials.

Our History

• 1972 – VMS opened its first location with eight students near Vancouver City Hall at 12^th Avenue and Cambie St., in the old Ideal School and former site of the Academy of Music.
• 1973 – We expanded to two classrooms.
• 1976 – VMS moved to our second location at 7^th Avenue and Arbutus Drive in Kitsilano. We had two classrooms in portables and an office.
• 1978 (December) – We moved to Marpole at 62^nd Avenue and Granville Street.
• 1979 (September) – VMS expanded to three Casa (pre-school) classes and started our first elementary program (6-12).
• 1982 – The BC Montessori Training Centre was founded to ensure teachers have an opportunity to receive quality AMI- approved training locally. Roni Jones (treasurer) and Prasannata Runkel (president) served on the MTCBC board for 32 years.
• 1993 – We moved to our present location at 8650 Barnard Street where we now have nine classrooms serving students from ages 3-12.
• 2022 –  VMS celebrated its 50^th Anniversary.
• 2025/26 – We continue our strong growth into the future!
